South Downs had been writing and recording for a number of years for fun, before he finally got around to letting others hear what he’d been up to.
Simon Shaw of Lucky Luke was one of those who heard some tracks and he suggested getting together to add some extra instrumentation. The first song to be worked on was ‘Something Inside’ with Simon adding fine melodic bass and fellow Lucky Luke(r) Morag Wilson adding beautiful harmonium throughout.
This debut track is just a brief introduction into South Downs’ world and he promises that there is lots more melodic and melancholic songs to come.
This song clearly shows one of his main influences to be Paul McCartney, but he also spends a great deal of time listening to Bryan Ferry (the name South Downs is taken from a Roxy Music instrumental), Anthony Reynolds, The Kinks and The Lilac Time.
He intends to continue daydreaming, writing and recording and hopefully some material will be available in the near future.
